What is literacy?
We live in a literacy-based society, which means that just about every piece of information we come across requires the ability to read. Even in this age of Internet, with terrific graphical interfaces, most of what we do requires reading.
How does the library promote literacy?
In addition to a variety of collections, the library provides educational opportunities for technological literacy, budgetary literacy and world literacy. Our youth programming offers baby, toddler, and pre-school story times, as well as the Summer Library Program, which helps children keep reading throughout the summer, and thus retain skills from spring to fall.
How does your gift benefit the library?
By donating to the Sun Prairie Public Library Foundation, you secure funding for programs and services above and beyond what the library can accomplish with city funds alone. The Early Literacy Area is a perfect example of a resource that transforms the library into a community learning place by offering play-based literacy panels to children 0-5 years. These children will develop pre-literacy skills that prepare them for kindergarten. This could not have been achieved had it not been for Foundation support – and your support.
